Senior Java Developer – Distributed Financial Systems 80–100%

This role focuses on the design, development, and operation of mission-critical financial systems, with a strong emphasis on Java backend engineering, distributed architectures, low-latency processing, and production reliability.

• Design and develop high-performance Java backend services for mission-critical financial applications
• Build scalable and resilient solutions using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Work with distributed systems, microservices, messaging, and event-driven architectures
• Integrate internal platforms and third-party services while ensuring performance, reliability, and data integrity
• Contribute to code quality, testing, CI/CD, and production stability
• Collaborate with international teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer / Distributed Systems Engineer to join a highly professional technology team within a leading financial services environment in Zurich.

The position is suited to a hands-on senior engineer who is comfortable taking end-to-end ownership of complex backend systems — from architecture and development through deployment, production support, performance optimisation, and continuous improvement.

Start: ASAP

Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension

Location: Zurich with up to two day homeoffice

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Good understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Experience with JPA, JDBC, relational databases, and messaging technologies such as JMS
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud environments, preferably Azure
• Comfortable working with Unix/Linux and modern software engineering practices
• Knowledge of OAuth2 and API security concepts
• Strong ownership mindset with a focus on quality, performance, and reliability
• Fluent English and comfortable working in international teams
• Previous experience in financial services is considered a plus

• Work on business-critical financial platforms within a leading financial services environment
• Exposure to complex distributed, low-latency, and high-availability architectures
• Work with modern technologies across Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, cloud, and event-driven systems
