IT System Engineer - Cloud (w/m/d)

River Advice is the world’s leading independent manager of river vessels. Under the umbrella of UNITED WATERWAYS, the group—with over 4,000 employees—represents a fleet of more than 100 passenger and event vessels on Europe’s inland waterways. With a broad range of services—from shipowning, crew, nautical, and technical management to hospitality & catering, safety & security, ship financing, charter brokerage, insurance management, new-build and refit support, and ship ICT—we support our clients in all areas of passenger inland waterway shipping.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud environments based on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
  • Monitor, manage, and optimize cloud resources to ensure performance, availability, and cost efficiency
  • Support hybrid cloud architectures and integrations between on-premises and cloud platforms
  • Implement and maintain cloud security, including Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and Microsoft Defender solutions
  • Manage backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and support compliance, risk management, and regulatory requirements
  • Plan and deliver cloud migrations, upgrades, and transformation projects
  • Conduct security assessments and drive remediation activities to strengthen the organization's security posture
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure the successful delivery and continuous improvement of cloud services

Your profile:

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 Administration, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell, and Microsoft Intune
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, VPN, and firewalls
  • A structured, accurate, and independent way of working
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to different audiences
  • A passion for cloud technologies and continuous learning
  • Fluency in English, a good knowledge of German is a plus

Advantageous:

  • Experience with the Microsoft Defender suite
  • Knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure Landing Zones
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep)
  • Familiarity with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
  • Exposure to Microsoft Copilot, AI services, or other AI-powered cloud technologies
