Aiglon College - Director of Expeditions

Aiglon College - Director of Expeditions

The Director of Aiglon College invites applications for the role of Director of Expeditions.

Founded by John Corlette in 1949 and today educating some 500 students from 65 nationalities, Aiglon represents an evolving educational community that places the whole child at the centre of everything it does. Benefiting from unique relationships with outstanding educators, all students enjoy a strong academic foundation, learning in exceptional facilities set against the timeless beauty of the Swiss Alps. The School remains true to its founding mission of ensuring the balanced development of mind, body and spirit, and the culture of expedition and discovery lies at its heart. At Aiglon’s core is a deeply embedded culture of outdoor learning, with a rich and extensive expedition programme encompassing mountaineering, climbing, skiing, trekking and a wide range of adventurous activities throughout the year.

Reporting to the Director of Character Education and working closely with colleagues across the School, the Director of Expeditions will provide strategic and operational leadership of Aiglon’s internationally renowned expedition programme. This role is central to the school’s identity and ethos, ensuring that all students benefit from a progressive, inspiring and safe outdoor education experience that develops resilience, leadership and a lifelong respect for the natural environment.

The successful candidate will oversee a large and complex programme, including the leadership of expeditions in alpine and remote environments, management of resources and budgets, and the coordination of a team of full-time and freelance staff. They will ensure the highest standards of health and safety, with responsibility for risk management, compliance with Swiss regulations and the continued development of robust operational protocols. They will bring significant experience of leading young people in the mountains and delivering high-quality outdoor education programmes, alongside relevant professional qualifications in mountaineering and outdoor leadership. A high level of technical competence in winter and summer mountain environments, including skiing, navigation and safety, will be essential.

The Director of Expeditions will be an inspiring and calm leader, capable of building confidence amongst students, staff and parents, and of leading teams effectively in both day-to-day operations and high-pressure situations. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a collaborative approach and a clear commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape and lead one of the world’s most distinctive and ambitious school expedition programmes, contributing to the continued development of Aiglon’s unique educational offer.

A CV and covering letter should be submitted by 09.00 BST on Friday 11 September.

Aiglon College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and relevant international police checks.
